The phrase, “You’re going to hell” has new meaning with this movie. It’s a horrific tale of Dani, a country girl from New Orleans, who’s looking for a break from life. She’s just exited a relationship where her boyfriend was married, and is being harassed by the wife, who claims to have cursed her. Hoping for a lot of fun with a change of scenery, she heads out to California to visit her cousin. Unfortunately for her, her troubles follow.

Voodoo, told through the eyes of a lens, is very a distinctive film. Though past movies of this style were popular for a long while, it’s just tiring today. No one carries a camera the way the characters in these sorts of movies do – so it is more of a voyeuristic pain, instead of entertaining. What surprised me the best part of the entire film: the walk through hell. Now that was original and unique.

I found appreciation for the mental torture but the gratuitous profanity and rape was much for me. Since it was hell, I expected craziness, but every high school and college teen isn’t as vulgar as movies make them. It just gets old fast. As a matter of fact, had the movie spent more time in developing the stalking of Dani, before the Hell-thru, Voodoo could have become haunting. And what was the deal with the beach scene?

The statues, even the creepy, maniacal creatures showed a great amount of talent and showed they spent a nice penny to make the movie, but it wasn’t enough for this reviewer. Voodoo releases February of this year.
