Born in England and raised in Toronto, Canada, Gemma Files has been a film critic, teacher, and screenwriter. Probably best known for her weird Western Hexslinger series (A Book of Tongues, A Rope of Thorns, and A Tree of Bones), she has also published two short fiction collections, two speculative poetry chapbooks and a story-cycle (We Will All Go Down Together: Stories of the Five-Family Coven). Five of her stories were adapted as episodes of Showtime’s The Hunger, an erotic horror anthology series produced by Tony and Ridley Scott. Her latest novel is Experimental Film.

The Only Ones, Carola Dibbell’s debut novel, was included by Nancy Hightower in the Washington Post’s top five science fiction and fantasy novels of 2015 and by NPR’s Jason Heller in his best books of 2015. Her fiction has appeared in the New Yorker, Paris Review, Black Clock, and Fence, and her rock criticism and other journalism mostly in the Village Voice.
