Located in a 100-year-old Elks Lodge building in suburban Pittsburgh, ScareHouse comprises four unique attractions, including three thrilling walk-through experiences plus a separately ticketed attraction known as The Basement — an ultra-intense, more-than-immersive experience that is not for the weak of heart.
In its 2018 season, ScareHouse will also pay tribute to Pittsburgh’s place in horror history as the location of George A. Romero’s groundbreaking Night of the Living Dead — which is celebrating its 50th anniversary — with its PITTSBURGH ZOMBIES: RE-ANIMATEDhaunted house.
The three attractions, each with its own terrifying narrative, that make up ScareHouse are:
- PITTSBURGH ZOMBIES: RE-ANIMATED, in which a harrowing zombie outbreak has overwhelmed the city and is the setting for a heart-pounding attraction that pays tribute to the original trilogy of Living Dead movies (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead), which established Pittsburgh as the “Zombie Capital of the World.” As guests seek refuge from a city rampant with zombies of every sort (incorporating some of the satire that Romero famously weaved through his movies), the sharp-eyed will also witness references to such modern zombie classics as Return of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead and The Walking Dead.
- NOCTURNIA 3-D, which sees guests transported back in time to a haunted carnival in the early 1900’s. NOCTURNIA 3-D features a unique, dread-inducing atmosphere reminiscent of Carnival of Souls. Those brave enough to explore these sinister fairgrounds should expect more than the traditional clowns and circus freaks as darker, more ominous figures wait around every corner.
- INFERNAL DARKNESS, a sequel to ScareHouse’s popular Infernal attraction, invites guests into an abandoned museum that was once home to the some of the most demonic artifacts known to man. Guests will be plunged into darkness, guided only by the illumination of flickering candles, as they attempt to evade the bloodthirsty spirits.
In addition to these three terrifying mazes, the most adventurous ScareHouse guests will have the opportunity to explore The Basement, a unique, intimate horror experience where groups of no more than two guests at a time will confront their worst fears.
After descending a flight of stairs into the dark underbelly of ScareHouse, guests will encounter a series of intense and R-rated horrors that challenge the limits of fear. Guests must be 18 or older, must sign a waiver of release prior to entry, and must prepare to be challenged and confronted by high-impact experiences involving total darkness, electricity, and intimate encounters with increasingly intense actors.

In recent years, ScareHouse has attracted the attention of horror lovers nationwide, including Oscar®-winning director Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), actor and producer Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings and the upcoming Mandy), and director-producer Michael Dougherty (Trick ’R Treat and Krampus).
