Major Karnage by Gord Zajac and Nexus: Ascension by Robert Boyczuk are now available in trade paperback and eBook formats from ChiZine Publications (CZP) and online retailers. The first of CZP’s Fall 2010 line-up, these two books represent a milestone for ChiZine Publications.

Nexus: Ascension is the first book that CZP has produced by an author already published by ChiZine Publications — Robert Boyczuk — whose short story collection Horror Story and Other Horror Stories was CZP’s second published title. As well, it is a return to science fiction, a genre CZP has not visited with a novel since its very first book, Filaria (Brent Hayward). Though Nexus: Ascension has sleeper ships with cryonic suspension, “screamer” satellites, and a planet-wide plague, Co-Publisher Sandra Kasturi warns readers this book does not mean CZP is moving away from its traditional fare. “We hate using horror vs. science fiction vs. fantasy to describe our works. Like Filaria, Nexus: Ascension has SF elements, but the tone, themes, and feel of this novel are in keeping with our other works — strong characters in troubling and disturbing situations.”

Major Karnage is also a bit of a departure in that it is described as “science fictional social satire.” “Gord Zajac is just a little bit insane, I think,” explains Co-Publisher Brett Alexander Savory. “This is an alien invasion story, but maybe one envisioned by Joseph Heller. Rather than just the square-jawed hero fighting aliens, you get a war-crazed psycho with a Sanity Patch and a sense of irony. They had to lock him up to keep him (and the rest of us) safe! It’s still very much a CZP book, just so over-the-top you have to laugh.”

Both books will be available in trade paperback editions as well as DRM-free eBooks in Kindle, ePub and PDF formats. As always, CZP is offering a 30% discount off the cover price for all trade paperbacks purchased directly from them.
