Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today that they have acquired worldwide rights to survival thriller BODY AT BRIGHTON ROCK from Soapbox Films and Protostar Pictures, based off an original screenplay by acclaimed writer and director Roxanne Benjamin (XX, SOUTHBOUND). The feature debut from Benjamin stars Karina Fontes as an inexperienced park ranger who must spend the night guarding a potential crime scene on a remote mountain trail.

Produced by Christopher Alender, Benjamin, and David A. Smith, the film will be released later this year, with sales starting at next month’s EFM.

“Roxanne has written a truly inventive, edge-of-your-seat script with BODY AT BRIGHTON ROCK,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “When we read it, we leapt at the opportunity to work with her again.”

Producer Christopher Alender, CEO of Soapbox Films, commented on the acquisition saying, “Roxanne Benjamin is one of the most exciting new filmmakers out there. Her quirky, smart, and often retro instincts mesh perfectly with the elevated genre we are producing here at Soapbox Films. We are extremely proud of BODY AT BRIGHTON ROCK, our third feature film collaboration with Roxanne.”

“The Magnolia/Magnet team released the first film I ever produced, and I couldn’t be happier to reunite with them for my first full feature as a director,” said Benjamin.

Written and directed by Roxanne Benjamin, BODY AT BRIGHTON ROCK is produced by Christopher Alender and David A. Smith for Soapbox Films (XX, SOUTHBOUND, SYNCHRONICITY) and Benjamin for Protostar Pictures, with Chris Harding as co-producer. The supporting cast includes Casey Adams (BLINDSPOTTING, XX), Emily Althaus (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), John Getz (BLOOD SIMPLE, THE FLY, ZODIAC), Matt Peters (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Miranda Bailey (DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL) and Susan Burke (SOUTHBOUND).
