The Squid Farm today announced it has begun principal photography of the psychological horror feature irl. This is the first project from the recently launched genre film and television production company headed up by Tara L. Craig.

Directed by Jen Harrington, irl (web shorthand for “In Real Life”) centers on a social media personality who becomes the target of an online terror campaign. Production is taking place in Los Angeles.

Craig is no stranger to the horror genre, having worked as head of physical production for Frank Mancuso Jr.’s 360 Pictures. She has a 20-year track record working on award-winning features and TV projects as a producer and line producer.

This is Harrington’s second directorial effort. Her first was the 2015 horror feature Housekeeping, which was acquired by Lionsgate Films/After Dark. Richard Wong is serving as Director of Photography for irl. He’s coming off the successful premiere of To the Bone at Sundance, where the project sold to Netflix for a reported $8 million.

irl stars Daisye Tutor (The Thinning: New World Order) as Mia, the social media star, and Nicola Posener (Age of the Living Dead) as Lani. It also features Octavius Johnson (Ray Donovan), Grant Rosenmeyer (Money Monster), Emily Goss (The House on Pine Street), and Stephanie Simbari (White Famous).
