Back in 1988, I picked up an anthology of movie-themed horror stories called Silver Scream, edited by David J. Schow. It was a fantastic anthology, filled with stories by the big names of the day – John Skipp, Craig Spector, Ray Garton, Joe Landsdale, Richard Christian Matheson, just to name a few. I loved that anthology, and it still sits on my shelf.
Recently I read Hell Comes to Hollywood II, which could have been inspired by Silver Scream. The stories are movie/Hollywood-themed, it includes some well-known names of today, such as Lisa Morton, Lin Shaye, Del Howison, Eric J. Guignard, John Palisano, and, as an added bonus, Richard Christian Matheson.
There is something here to please all horror fans, whether you like your horror subtle or in-your-face. A sentient hot tub demands to be fed, a child actor takes his role all-too-seriously, a man joins a reality show in which he is buried alive, zombies are used as extras.
This anthology is a lot of fun, and a perfect companion to the first. Pop some popcorn and dim the lights before you dig in, you’re in for quite a ride.
