Canadian indie game developer Brutal Studio has chosen to launch a Kickstarter project for their upcoming zombie adventure game Dark Dayz, a 2D top down shooter game. The 3 man team has a few games under their belts but have decided to give Kickstarter a try so they can create a bigger and better game and bring it to desktop, Android, iOS and possibly Console. A playable prologue has been simultaneously launched with the project, available online and on Android phones and tablets. An iOS version is expected to launch early next month. The project is also on Steam Greenlight.
After playing several zombie shooter games we realized that most were just zombie survivals, where you would be confined to a small map with waves and waves of endless zombies. Of course you could upgrade your weapons and some offered different maps but nothing out of the ordinary.
That’s why we decided to bring a different kind of zombie shooter game. If funded, Dark Dayz will be an adventure game where you must craft your weapons and items, gauge your inventory and health, scavenge and search around for necessary items and find and save helpless survivors.
Depending on the level of funding we might also include an artificial intelligence for the survivors, who will help you on your quest. You will even be able to swap weapons and heal your survivors on the way.
For the backers of our Kickstarter project we combined both digital rewards in the game and game merchandising such as Posters and T-Shirts. Our first stretch goal is set to $5000 for the complete version, with over 50 levels, vast new maps, loads of new weapons and crafting items, new zombies and more. If we exceed our main goal and reach $10 000 or $30 000 we can add advanced features, such as account logins, co-op modes and possible multi-player modes.
“The Dark Dayz Kickstarter project is the turning point for us”, explained Mario Boutin, co-founder and lead artist at Brutal Studio, who also played the role of the zombie in their funny home-made trailer. “This is our chance to get noticed. If we exceed our stretch goals, this might just propel our future projects to the same level of quality and hopefully we can delve into new markets. Experiment with 3D game design perhaps and dig up old game ideas we had to put aside due to limited production budgets.”
