Trigger warning: This poetry book deals with sensitive female issues. I’m pretty sure the cover is a clue, but just in case, I’m warning the reader. Lindsey Goddard’s prose drips red and burns with the anger of every woman. She speaks for all the ravaged voices howling in the dark. In this anthology, my favorites were Unnatural Disaster, a poem about relationship abuse; Within, a poem dealing with societal explanations of beauty; Too Little Too Late where men claim ownership over women’s bodies in horrific ways around the world; Nature Channel, a poem dealing with incest; and Why X, a poem dealing with sexuality and labels. Goddard’s book is timely and filled with unabashed rage. It is long overdue that more women get angry about the injustices of this world we live with and write about it. It makes for a beautiful splash of crimson on the page.
