JournalStoneI have to start the newsletter this month by saying CONGRATULATIONS to Joe R. Lansdale! “Fishing With Dinosaurs,” his contribution to Limbus II, won the Bram Stoker Award for Superior Achievement in Long Fiction at the Horror Writers Association convention in Atlanta on May 9th. We couldn’t be happier, nor could we be more proud of the work accomplished by him and all of the other contributors to Limbus II. Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the efforts of all of the Bram Stoker Award winners. Congratulations and well done!

If you’re wondering what our offerings are for this month, we’ve got a couple of treats for you. Fans of Lovecraft will be enthralled by Brett J. Talley’s He Who Walks in Shadow, a follow up to his very successful novel, That Which Should Not Be. I promise you won’t be disappointed. We are also happy to present 7 time Bram Stoker Award winner Gary A. Braunbeck’s In Silent Graves. Those of you who have read any of his work know that this is a must have. If you’re not familiar with his previous writings, then this is a dynamite way to start.

Now for the big announcement some of you have been waiting for. JournalStone Publishing is open for submissions, but only until July 1, 2015. If you want details on how to submit a book for publication, then just go to the JournalStone Submissions website. There is one note of caution. As you are aware, JournalStone is known for publishing only the best in horror/sci fi/fantasy fiction. You can count on us being very selective in the work we accept for publication.

Until next month…

he who walkHe Who Walks in Shadow
by Brett J. Talley

The Incendium Maleficarum has been lost and Carter Weston presumed dead, but the story of That Which Should Not Be is only just beginning. Now Carter’s only daughter, Rachel Jones, and his oldest friend, Henry Armitage, must embark on an epic journey that will take them from the hell-blasted Tunguska forest to the catacombs of Paris to the shores of the Scottish Isles.

They are in a race against time, for in France, strange murders and whispers of occult rituals herald the rise of an ancient evil bent on plunging the world into eternal darkness.

It is up to Rachel and Henry to learn Carter’s fate, recover the Incendium Maleficarum, and perhaps even save the world.

silentIn Silent Graves
by Gary A. Braunbeck

One moment, Robert Londrigan is a rising-star newscaster, devoted husband, and expectant father; the next, he’s a widower in a morgue, staring at gaping holes in his daughter’s body where surgeons have harvested every useful scrap of her organs and tissue.  The rock-bottom falls out from under his life when a disfigured man knocks Robert out and steals what’s left of her tiny corpse out from under his nose, and leaves a gruesome surprise waiting for him back home.

Robert’s search for the disfigured man leads him through a rapidly-fragmenting reality into a chiaroscuro world and the discovery that neither his wife nor his daughter are who he thought they were.

Gary A. Braunbeck’s work has earned, 7 Bram Stoker Awards, an International Horror Guild Award, 3 Shocker Awards, a Black Quill Award, and a World Fantasy Award nomination.

by David Liss

There was a time when Pete felt like he had the world in the palm of his hands, but lately everything is falling apart. His wife is growing cold, his business is in trouble, and even his friends show him nothing but contempt. Then a neighbor introduces him to paleo – the old way of eating, exercising, and even communing with the ancient sprits of the Neanderthals.  All it takes is a little work, a little discipline, and a little blood sacrifice, and mysterious powers are within his grasp, but there’s a price Pete never expected.  It’s a dark tale of terror, revenge, and suburban fads.
