On August 22, 2012, Boston-based Madavor Media, a privately held niche and enthusiast media company, acquired The Writer, one of the oldest continuously published magazines in the U.S., and BirdWatching, the country’s premier magazine about wild birds and birdwatching. Madavor also acquired the websites and digital properties for each magazine.
Madavor Media VP/Group Publisher Susan Fitzgerald said that the publications represent two strong brands in fields that engage readers passionately.
“We are excited to include these brands in our lineup and to find innovative ways to expand them in new markets,” said Fitzgerald. “We will continue to deliver the quality and authoritative content readers and advertisers expect, and we intend to take both magazines to new and engaging places.”
Madavor purchased the two magazines and affiliated products from Kalmbach Publishing Co., a Waukesha, Wisconsin-based company that offers a variety of media channels including magazines, books, events, websites and other digital media.
“As longtime publishers of these great magazines, we’re very happy to see both titles go to another high quality media company,” said Charles Croft, president of Kalmbach.
Madavor Media publishes other titles and manages trade shows that are all leaders in their respective fields in the sports and enthusiast markets. Through its print and digital magazines, trade shows, websites, e-mail newsletters, and other partnerships across the publishing industry, Madavor offers unique ways to communicate with passionate consumers eager to learn more about products and events related to their interests.
The Writer and BirdWatching join a team of eclectic and lively publications such as FOAM, JazzTimes, International Figure Skating, Gluten-Free Living, Fairways + Greens, Inside Arts and Volleyball.
