SAN FRANCISCO, August, 2014 – JournalStone Publishing (JSP) President, Christopher C. Payne is pleased to announce the acquisition of “the next big thing in weird,” Bizarro Pulp Press. An independent publisher of genre fiction since its inception in January, 2013, Bizarro Pulp Press is known for experimental, off-beat, and grindhouse-style fiction that challenges the limits of literature.
In January, 2013, Bizzaro Pulp Press (BPP) was launched by Pat Douglas, author of several horror/bizarro novels, including: Killer Koalas from Another Dimension (Severed Press), The Bikings (Rooster Republic Press), and The Remnant (Permuted Press). BPP has published work by some of the horror industry’s rising stars, including: David Bernstein, Adam Millard, Eric S. Brown, and David C. Hayes. These authors joined forces with S.T. Cartledge, Chris Kelso, R.A. Harris, Grant Wamack, Scott Lange, and MP Johnson to help grow one of the premiere genre fiction publishers in today’s marketplace. In December, 2013, BPP released its first anthology, Bizarro Bizarro.
In the summer of 2013, Bizarro Pulp Press hired its first editor-in-chief, Vincenzo Bilof. Vincenzo will continue to handle all creative responsibilities for Bizarro Pulp Press as it functions as an imprint of JournalStone Publishing. Vincenzo Bilof is an educator from Detroit, Michigan, and the author of eight novels, including: Confessions of the Impaler, The Horror Show, and Japanese Werewolf Apocalypse.
In 2014, Bizarro Pulp Press was pleased to participate in the Wonderland Awards; MP Johnson’s The After-Life Story of Pork Knuckles Malone was nominated for the bizarro genre’s prestigious award. Forthcoming releases from Bizarro Pulp Press include the genre-bending anthology, Surreal Worlds, edited by Vincenzo Bilof; Industrial Carpet Drag by Bruce Taylor; Terence, Mephisto, & Viscera Eyes by Chris Kelso; and many more. BPP will continue to push the boundaries of art and literature with poetry collections, anthologies, and novellas that will defy genre conventions.Joe Ledger teams with Malcolm Crow (from the Pine Deep Trilogy) and Sam Hunter (from Strip Search) to tackle a team experimenting with genetically-engineered werewolves.
