The editing team of Lynne M. Thomas, Michael Damian Thomas, and John Klima have announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund the publication of an anthology of Roller Derby, nightclubs, glam aliens, (literal) party monsters, drug, sex, glitter, and debauchery. Titled Glitter & Madness, the book will be published by Apex Publications with an expected release in August, 2013 (Worldcon!).

A project such as Glitter & Madness isn’t of the traditional mold, and a tough sell to any book company. Therefore, the editors elected to fund their exciting anthology vision via the Kickstarter crowdfunding service. The money from the campaign will go toward the production of the book (editing and layout), paying contributing authors and artist professional rates for their contributions. A Rollercade Glow Party at Lone Star Con III, and promotion. Thomas and her editing partners selected Apex Publications as their publisher due to the company’s reputation for being progressive and having a history of producing high quality anthologies.

How did it all come about? “It all started on Twitter,” says Lynne M. Thomas. “John Klima mentioned that he wanted to throw a glitter party for all the science fiction and fantasy people he knows. Michael showed John a link to The Rollercade. We decided that instant to combine two fun ideas: a glow-in-the-dark roller skating party and a book about the secret history of 20th Century nightlife/party culture.”

Should the project get funded, the editors have commitments from Seanan McGuire, Alan DeNiro, Amal El-Mohtar, Daryl Gregory, Damien Walters Grintalis, Maria Dahvana Headley, Kat Howard, Jennifer Pelland, Tim Pratt, Cat Rambo, Tansy Rayner Roberts, Diana Rowland, Sofia Samatar, David J. Schwartz, and William Shunn. There will be an open reading period so that the editors can uncover any glamorous writers that they may have overlooked. Glitter & Madness will be released as a trade paperback and eBook.
