I know.  It’s not horror.  But who doesn’t love Earth Girls Are Easy?  Besides, it is being sponsored by Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention.  It’s also going to a good cause.  Details are in the press release below:

Earth Girls Are Easy Special Screening to Benefit Hollywood Theater

80s flavored event includes DJ and special Just Say Julie screening

Pittsburgh, PA – April 1, 2013 – The Hollywood Theater in Dormont goes back to the 80s on April 13, 2013 with a special event to benefit the theater’s digital projection fundraising campaign.  The evening features a screening of the 1988 sci-fi comedy “Earth Girls Are Easy”, which stars Geena Davis, Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans and Julie Brown.

Doors will open at 7 PM with 80s and beach music provided by The Muzik Machine DJ Service.  Other preshow activities include a hula hoop contest and best 80s costume contest.  There will also be a chance to win a prize for best lip sync of “Cause I’m a Blonde”, which is performed in the film by Ms. Brown.  Angela Rocco Photography will be on hand to provide patrons with commemorative photos, with a portion of the sales benefitting the theater.

At 8 PM, patrons will be treated to an episode of Just Say Julie prior to the Earth Girls screening.  Just Say Julie, a comedy/music video show, aired on MTV from 1989 to 1992 and was created by and starred Julie Brown.

The party continues after the film with music and photo ops in the theater’s lobby.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and include admission to the screening, two drink tickets (good for beer, wine or soft drinks) and light refreshments. Cash concessions will also be available during the entire event.

Advance tickets may be purchased at the theater during regular hours or online through Showclix at:

Net proceeds of this event will benefit the Hollywood’s digital projection campaign. The Hollywood Theater needs to raise $75,000 to make the film-to-digital conversion in 2013 as major movie studios and distributors are now making the switch to DCP (Digital Cinema Package), a file format that is screened at theaters via a high end digital projector and server. If the Hollywood Theater does not get this new projector, it will be forced to go dark as we will be unable to get the rights to show any movies.

The theater is located at 1449 Potomac Avenue in Dormont.  Ample free parking is available at metered on-street spaces or parking lots.  The theater is located less than two blocks from the Potomac Avenue light rail transit station.  For more information, please contact[email protected] or visit www.thehollywooddormont.org.

The event is produced and sponsored by Horror Realm, Pittsburgh’s modern horror convention (www.horrorrealmcon.com).
