Summer Rental

Daddy was able to rent a cottage for the summer at Chambers Beach. According to the neighbors, the house had “difficulties” keeping tenants.
The kids next door were more specific. Folks didn’t bail without paying the rent; they hanged themselves, or were eaten by sharks, or were struck by lightning. One fellow was lobotomized by a pelican.
I warned Momma how unlucky this cottage was, but she just smiled and shooed me out to play and went back to sharpening her knives.
I think it’s going to be a long summer here at the corner of Yellow and King Streets.
