Reward
by Stephen D. Rogers
Our dog came home with the leash in his mouth.
My husband wasn’t at the other end.
I walked the streets calling his name.
I talked to neighbors.
I filed a report.
I posted flyers on telephone poles offering a $100 reward.
Someone who found a loose husband called me, but he wasn’t mine.
He was, however, better behaved.
I updated neighbors.
Cancelled the report.
Pulled down the flyers.
Gave him a name.
“Stay.”
