LEAVING HOME

By Craig Peterson

Brian’s dazed stare across the street took his twelve-year-old breath away. He’d heard murmurs on the playground about haunted house but was leery to admit one existed across the street from him.  Having just moved in, he knew no one would take him seriously.

Fear gripped Brian as he gawked at the ghostly movements that danced in the windows.  He yearned to venture across the street to investigate but lack of courage stopped him.

His trance ceased as the front door eased open exposing a child matching his gaze.  Without thinking, Brian crossed the street, never to go home again.
