Goodbye

Her tears began to flow before he could explain. He wanted to say he was so sorry he couldn’t see her anymore, but her sobs wouldn’t let him speak. The tears were almost more than he could bear, but he had to move on. He had to start the next chapter, and she couldn’t be part of it.
“Why did you leave me,” she whispered. “What will I do without you?”
He had no answer. He tried to console her, to wrap her in his arms one last time.
She gently kissed his headstone, then turned and walked away.
