A Mother’s Contempt

by William Morgan

I ate my twin.

That’s what my Mother told me. I absorbed him in her womb. She told me this not with pity, but hate.

” He would’ve been better than you. He would’ve been intelligent, kept a job, married, given me grandchildren. He would’ve been everything your not.”

She looked at me with contempt.

” You’re lazy, stupid, a drug addict, a thief, an albatross around my neck, low-life scum, a great big nothing, why I didn’t abort you..”

She tells me this while I have a knife in my hand?..

I ate my Mother
