EMAfilms and Epic Pictures have cast Diego Klattenhoff and Charlotte Sullivan to play the lead roles in their sci-fi thriller RADIUS. The announcement was made by Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald and Co-Founder Shaked Berenson.
Klattenhoff stars as FBI Agent Donald Ressler in current TV hit “The Blacklist.” He is also known for playing Mike Faber in Showtime’s award-winning series “Homeland.” Charlotte Sullivan is a Canadian actress best known for her role as officer Gail Peck in the ABC police drama series “Rookie Blue.” In 2011, Sullivan starred as Marilyn Monroe in the miniseries “The Kennedys.”
RADIUS marks the second feature collaboration for EMAfilms and Epic Pictures, having produced the award-winning TURBO KID together, and the companies’ first collaboration with writer-directors Caroline Labrèche and Steeve Léonard.
TURBO KID directors Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell, and Francois Simard are on board as executive producers with Stéphanie Trépanier. TURBO KID producer Anne-Marie Gelinas returns to produce with her EMAfilms partner, Benoit Beaulieu, and is joined by co-producer Jean Du Toit from Manitoba, where principal photography will take place.
RADIUS, a Memento-style thriller, revolves around a young man who wakes from a car crash with no memory of who he is. As he makes his way into town to look for help, he finds only dead bodies, all with strange pale eyes. At first believing a deadly virus is in the air, he soon discovers the horrific truth, which sets in motion an unbelievable chain of events.
”Our idea with RADIUS was to take a character, give him a massive and fantastical problem, and see how he tries to solve it. That’s what the film is for us. It’s like watching a rat in a maze in which there’s no exit or like being strapped in the passenger seat of a runaway car careening downhill,” commented Labrèche and Léonard.
Patrick Ewald, CEO of Epic Pictures, said, ”We’re thrilled to be working with EMAfilms again and are very excited to begin a relationship with Caroline and Steeve as RADIUS is going to be an incredible film.”
Shaked Berenson, Co-Founder of Epic Pictures, added, ”With so much content out there, it is very hard to find fresh ideas. We continue our commitment to supporting new voices and are looking forward to bringing Caroline and Steeve’s unique vision to the big screen.
RADIUS writers and directors Caroline Labrèche and Steeve Léonard have been lifelong partners, graduating from film school together and immediately writing, producing, and directing their own short films. In 2009, they self-financed their first feature, LOST CAUSE, which premiered and sold out at Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival and received the coveted Audience Award for Best Quebec-made Feature Film. The success of LOST CAUSE has led to various projects in development, including RADIUS. Epic Pictures will be exec producing and conducting world sales and US distribution. Filmoption International will be distributing in Canada.
Principal photography began June 1st in Winnipeg, Canada.
