Poppy was a passion project that Brian and I have been working on for nearly two years. Having worked in comic for over a decade we both really wanted to do an all-ages adventure book. A book that evoked the books we’d read and loved as kids–books like Tintin, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Doc Savage, andHuckleberry Finn.
We wanted to make a book that would be fun and funny but also have some heart. A book that kids and their parents would fall in love with and a book that could really show off what we love about making comics and what makes the medium so great.
It’s also a book borne of our friendship and love of the medium. Colt and Poppy are us–best friends that sometimes bicker, most of the time laugh, and above all else, share a love of adventure.
That’s what Poppy is to us. That, and an excuse to draw cut-away views, diagrams, puzzles, robots, talking shrunken heads, and highly evolved mollusks.
