ChiZine Publications (CZP) is celebrating 10 years publishing the weird, wonderful and bizzarre with new releases from George A. Romero, Kate Heartfield, Matt Moore, and Kate Story! In honour of their 10th birthday, ChiZine will be releasing a slate of four frightening novels hitting shelves in May 2018.
Releases include the first of Kate Story’s two-part SF/F series, Antilia: Sword and Song, which brings together humans, minor gods, and mythological beings; the late great George A. Romero’s, highly anticipated children’s book The Little World of Humongo Bongo (with Romero’s own illustrations); Matt Moore’s collection of thought-provoking near-future stories of the bizarre and terrifying, It’s Not the End and Other Lies; and Kate Heartfield’s dark fantasy epic Armed in Her Fashion that takes the reader on a treasure hunt from the medieval city of Bruges to the depths of hell.
“We are celebrating our 10-year anniversary by taking the reader to some of the darkest, most fantastic, and bizarre places imaginable,” said Sandra Kasturi, Publisher, ChiZine Publications. “We are especially thrilled to finally be releasing George A. Romero’s children’s book; it was an honour working with him and he is a great loss to both the film and book worlds.”
ChiZine Spring 2018 Releases:
Antilia: Sword and Song – Kate Story (May 2018) – ChiTeen
It’s the near future, and the world is on the brink of war. The paths of two lonely teens converge, caught in an uncontrollable current crashing through time and space. Rowan and Ophelia discover that they share a place they thought was the stuff of childhood dreams. In Antilia, there is magic, and humans walk alongside minor gods and mythological beings. But all is not what it seems, and the two are pulled inexorably into a divided realm. Separated and unable to get home, they find that Antilia’s fate and Earth’s are forged together. Can Ophelia and Rowan repair the damage, fulfill their destinies, and save both worlds from annihilation?
The Little World of Humongo Bongo – George A. Romero (May 2018) – ChiGraphic
When everything is easily crushable under well-meaning feet, how can a Humongo ever fit in in such a little world? From the creator of The Night of the Living Dead and the zombie movement that permeates our culture today, comes a sarcastic and cynical children’s tale of different creatures trying to coexist in a benign, yet power-hungry environment. In line with Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, The Little World of Humongo Bongo is a beautiful metaphor on the evolution of our civilization, depicted with humour and simplicity. Featuring illustrations by Romero himself, welcome to a zany little world captured by the lens of one of the world’s visionary filmmakers.
It’s Not the End and Other Lies – Matt Moore (May 2018) – ChiZine Publications
Only able to recall the memories of others, a ghost must solve the mystery of his own death. The zombie apocalypse is the gateway to a higher human consciousness. An amusement park of the future might turn you into the attraction. An engineer-turned-mercenary races to kill the saviour of mankind. After the sky falls, can anyone still hope? The first story collection from Aurora Award-nominee Moore, this volume contains new unpublished original stories as well as previously published work.
Armed in Her Fashion – Kate Heartfield (May 2018) – ChiZine Publications
In 1328, Bruges is under siege by the Chatelaine of Hell and her army of chimeras―humans mixed with animals or armour, forged in the deep fires of the Hellbeast. At night, revenants crawl over the walls and bring plague and grief to this city of widows. Margriet de Vos learns she’s a widow herself when her good-for-nothing husband comes home dead from the war. But he didn’t come back for her. The revenant who was her husband pulls a secret treasure of coins and weapons from under his floorboards and goes back through the mouth of the beast called Hell.
