This May, Alt.Fiction will host its Spring Writing Weekend with Simon Clark, acclaimed horror novelist, and science fiction writer Tony Ballantyne, as guest speakers.

The weekend takes place 20th-22nd May at the Legacy Chesterfield Hotel, Chesterfield and will be hosted by Alex Davis, Alt.Fiction’s creator, and coordinator for Writing East Midlands. It’s a great opportunity for writers of science fiction, fantasy and horror to meet and work with like-minded people and enjoy workshops, talks and interviews with established authors in the field.

Simon Clark has been a professional author for more than fifteen years. When his first novel, Nailed by the Heart, made it through the slush pile in 1994 he banked the advance and embarked upon his dream of becoming a full-time writer. His other novels include Darkness Demands, Vengeance Child and The Night of the Triffids, which continues the story of Wyndham’s classic The Day of the Triffids. Simon’s latest novel is a return to his much-loved Vampyrrhic mythology with Whitby Vampyrrhic.

Tony Ballantyne regularly contributed to magazines such as Interzone and Private Eye before embarking on his first novel, Recursion. With Blood and Iron, his fifth novel, he continues with his exciting Penrose Series which began with Twisted Metal.

Attendees will have the opportunity to bring their writing along for invaluable feedback, as well as to get expert advice and find out about the world of publishing and literary agents. The weekend is sure to both inform and inspire.

Simon Clark says of the weekend: “I’m delighted have been invited to take part. I firmly believe that these kinds of events are of immense value to aspiring writers. Not just for what they learn from the professional authors, but from mixing with like-minded souls. It’s a fantastic way to get fired up with the enthusiasm and the passion to write better than before. And then to go out there and sell their work.”

The Spring Writing Weekend costs just £180, including two nights’ accommodation, all meals and hot drinks, plus a full programme of writing activities throughout Saturday and Sunday featuring the guest authors.
