I readily admit, I enjoyed the first Scream. I know it’s not exactly what you would call high brow entertainment, but I liked it nonetheless. I also admit that I haven’t really kept up with the subsequent films. Are they up to Scream 23 yet? All of that being said, I’m curious about MTV’s plans to make a pilot for a series based on the movie franchise. With the announcement that Wes Craven is being pursued to direct the pilot episode, I may actually have to tune in and give it a try. Just as an aside, and I’m sure I’m dating myself by saying this, but am I the only one who remembers when MTV actually played music? I’m just sayin’. Anyway, if this has you curious also, head on over to the MTV website and learn more.
From the website:
Get ready to “Scream” again. MTV has ordered a one-hour pilot based on the Wes Craven series of horror films aimed at reinventing the smash films that introduced the world to maniacal killer Ghostface.
MTV is teaming with Dimension Films on the “Scream” reboot, with discussions underway with a number of writers for the series, which is slated for a summer 2014 debut. In addition, Dimension has been speaking to Craven about directing the show’s pilot. The “Scream” announcement came on Thursday at MTV’s annual upfront presentation,
Unfortunately, I do remember when MTV played little but music videos. That was back during the mid-eighties when I was still a Tarheel boy, thinking about writing movies in Hollywood. Ah, dreams.
I enjoyed the Scream movie and will probably watch the pilot on MTV if Wes directs it.
The Scream movies were so awesome, and I’d happily jump over to MTV to watch a series. I work at DISH with friends who are huge Wes Craven fans, so I’m sure they would watch, too. If it ends up being half as good as the movies were, I’ll save the entirety of it to my DISH Hopper, so I can re-watch it all multiple times. My Hopper can record up to 2,000 hours of entertainment, so there’s always going to be enough space for my other shows.
