Universal Cable Productions (UCP) and indie studio Blumhouse Television announced the start of production on the upcoming USA Network series, THE PURGE, based on the hit film franchise. Filming kicked-off today with Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winner Anthony Hemingway (UNSOLVED: THE MURDERS OF TUPAC AND THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G. and AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE PEOPLE V. O.J. SIMPSON) directing the premiere episode. Gabriel Chavarria (East Los High), Lili Simmons (Ray Donovan), Jessica Garza (Six), Amanda Warren (The Leftovers), Colin Woodell (Unsane), Hannah Anderson (New Mutants), and Lee Tergesen (Oz) star in the series that will shoot in New Orleans and surrounding areas. William Baldwin (Backdraft) and Fiona Dourif (Curse of Chucky) will recur.
From Blumhouse Television (HBO’s upcoming SHARP OBJECTS, Hulu’s INTO THE DARK, and Showtime’s LOUDEST VOICE IN THE ROOM) and Universal Cable Productions (Amazon’s HOMECOMING and USA Network’s MR. ROBOT and THE SINNER), THE PURGE will be executive produced by the film franchise creator James DeMonaco and led by Jason Blum. Additionally, the entire team behind the blockbuster franchise are on board to executive produce: Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form under the Platinum Dunes banner and Sebastien K. Lemercier. Thomas Kelly serves as executive producer/showrunner of the series. Hemingway will also serve as executive producer on the premiere episode.
THE PURGE will air on USA Network this fall. The premiere and finale episodes will be simulcast on SYFY.
The series is being filmed in New Orleans with the cooperation of Louisiana Entertainment, a division of Louisiana Economic Development.
