Monster on Top

by Priya Sridhar

Joshua woke up and found a furry beast on his chest. It had three legs, one horrid eye, and musty breath. His roommate couldn’t see the monster, but he saw Joshua was stuck.

“Come on, man, what’s up?”

“I can’t feel my legs,” Joshua wheezed.

Joshua’s roommate called an ambulance; paramedics found lungs collapsing. The monster’s claws dug deeper. No one noticed because their hands went through the monster’s body.

In the ER they scheduled an operation. Insurance would pay. The monster growled as  cold air pumped into Joshua’s lungs. It wanted him dead, and he couldn’t get it off.
