Bob and Jill

by Jack Shreves

Bob sits in the darkness watching Jill through her window. She’s reading a magazine, sipping tea.

Bob’s kit is ready. Rope, handcuffs, knife…..Everything he’s going to need. He’s watched her for days, always out of sight but getting closer. Last night he left that magazine on her doorstep.

Smiling, he inches closer. She turns a page, sips her tea.

Bob never notices the shadow behind him until it’s too late. One hand covers his mouth, the other presses a knife to his throat.

Leaning in the other whispers: “Jill says hi.”

Smiling, Jill sets the magazine down.
