A QUICK WALK

By Craig Peterson

Matt and Lynn walked out the front door for their evening walk.  If they knew this would be the last time they would see their son Scott alive they would have said something more insightful then, “Be back soon.”

Scott opened the door when he heard keys jingling outside.  What greeted him on the porch wasn’t human.  Its movement was quick, engulfing Scott’s body in one brisk swoop.  His Converse stood at the threshold with severed feet twitching inside.

Later, Matt and Lynn stumbled back, tripping over shoes.

Lazy kid.

Before they reached the bedroom they heard a jingle out-front.
