February 4-6, 2013 at the Aero Theatre

The American Cinematheque in association with The Actors Studio presents a film retrospective highlighting the work of legendary actor, Robert De Niro.

One of the greatest actors working today, Mr. De Niro has been delivering unforgettable performances for more than 40 years. Mr. De Niro has not won an Oscar in 31 years, since his Best Actor win for Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull in 1982. This year he is nominated for Best Supporting actor for his role in Silver Linings Playbook. This is Mr. De Niro’s 7th Oscar nomination.

This tribute to his legendary career will include screenings of five of Mr. De Niro’s most notable features: Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Cape Fear, Awakenings, and Silver Linings Playbook. All programs in the De Niro retrospective series will take place at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, over three consecutive days. Mr. De Niro will only appear in person, following the February 4th screening of Silver Linings Playbook.

A disciple of the Method acting of Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, Mr. De Niro throws himself completely into his roles – he famously put on 70 lbs. to play the overweight ex-boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull (a performance that earned the actor an Academy Award). That film was directed by Martin Scorsese; over the course of two decades, the pair collaborated on eight acclaimed films. Robert De Niro has spent time directing as well (The Good Shepherd), and supports both moviemaking and his beloved New York City by staging the annual Tribeca Film Festival.
