On Saturday February 12th at 2:00 p.m. Dark Delicacies in conjunction with the Ladies of Horror will celebrate Women In Horror month.

Women In Horror Month was founded last year by writer Hannah Neurotica (Ax Wound Magazine) as a way to get women in the horror industry together and celebrate their strides and existence in the industry.

After she proposed the idea, many women across the world took notice and planned events everywhere from England to Canada to the US. Film fests, mini conventions, and blood drives (with the tag line “Bleed For Your Favorite Women In Horror”) spread like wild fire across the globe while female filmmakers, actresses, journalists, writers, special effects artists, and many others took this as an opportunity to get out there and celebrate the leaps and bounds that they their gender has made from just being seen as “the victims in a good horror film” to the strong personalities that drive much of horror films today.

They came together on their own accord and made worldwide press for these events. We are hoping to repeat that again for 2011 and make it even larger.

This year Dai Green of HorrorNews.net and Reyna Young from LastDoorWayProductions.com have teamed up with Sue and Del Howison (owners of Dark Delicacies) to bring Burbank an amazing meeting of minds and event for women in all aspects of the horror industry. The Amazing Line Up Of Women includes: Elissa Dowling – Actress; Michelle Tomlinson – Actress; Brooke
Lewis – Film Maker – Actress; Rachael Grubb – Film Maker Actress; Tara Cardinal – Film Maker – Actress; Mo Whelan – Writer – Film Maker – Writer ; Eileen Dietz – Actress; Dai Green – Writer – Actress; Reyna Young – Film Maker – Actress; Victoria Del Mare – Actress ; Monique Parent – Actress; Bastet2329 – Owner Of Creepy Gothic Dolls; Melissa Krimsky – SFX Artist who will be demonstrating special effects techniques in the front window.

The bookstore will also be hosting a food drive to help refill the local food banks to help them recoup after the Holiday rush. People who bring in five (5) canned food or more of nonperishable food items will be entered into a special raffle to win some very unique prizes from Dark Delicacies, The Writer’s Store, Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, Dylan Keith Salon, Wicked Apple, Sourpuss Clothing, Hyaena Gallery, plus much more.

On Sunday February 13th at 1:00 p.m. Dark Delicacies will hold an unveiling of Special Effects Artist Mike Hill’s latest monster creation in their front window. The subject of that unveiling is a SFX secret.

Michael E. Hill dreamed of a fantastic world filled with masked vigilantes, men who transformed into wolves and Islands ruled by giant apes. Mike’s one unique trait was to question how and why these characters looked and behaved the way they do, always over thinking!

“I would ask myself and others crazy questions. What did King Kong do all day, when he’s not fighting dinosaurs and wouldn’t he be scarred from head to toe, with all those prehistoric creatures he had to battle? And really puzzling details like, how come we can’t see Spiderman’s web shooters beneath his costume, or his ears or his underwear? Or stuff that still bugs me to this day, when a werewolf turns back to a man where does all the fur go? Does he lose his teeth fillings? People looked at me as if to say, ‘Son, you’ve really got problems.'”

Mike’s artistic visions progressed into 3D sculpture and costume and mask making. Having become one of the worlds leading figure sculptors and a master of capturing the human likeness, his career to date has included figure kit sculpting, wax figures, creature designing, prosthetic make-up, and creating hyper-real character statues. Mike’s passion still remains the same…over thinking the impossible! Through his art, Mike hopes to share with his audience that little boy’s dreamland and maybe answer some of his own questions.
