The 15th Annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival is taking place October 1-2-3, 2010 at the Hollywood Theatre in Portland, Oregon. The Festival promotes the works of H.P. Lovecraft, literary horror, and weird tales through the cinematic adaptations by professional and amateur filmmakers. It was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore in the hope that H.P. Lovecraft would be rightly recognized as a master of gothic horror and his work more faithfully adapted to film and television.
Feature Films and Lovecraft Movies
El Monstro Del Mar – Combine elements of Russ Meyer’s Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (a 1965 exploitation film), the three thugs from The Terrible Old Man re-cast them as three gorgeous but deadly hired killers and have them hole up in a small beach-side Innsmouth-like town and you’ll get this film.
Pan’s Labyrinth – Set in Spain during World War II. This is the story of a young girl named Ofelia. She is a girl who has a passion for fairy tales, which causes her to see one during her trip on the forest that is not quiet. She goes to her stepfather’s home in the country along with her pregnant but sickly mother, he is the sadistic Captain Vidal. Ofelia creates an imaginary world of her own to escape the cruel and harsh realities of the world.
Primal – Over 12,000 years in the distant past, an Australian native desperately tries to warn others of the presence of an unknown primal entity only to be devoured for his efforts. Now six friends on a research field trip to study cave paintings set up camp in the same remote wilderness. But when one takes a dip in a nearby water hole, she becomes feverish and agitated, and regresses to a predatory state where her companions become the hunted. When another begins the same beastly transition, terror descends on the others as they realize they are doomed.
The Burrowers – In the Dakota Territories in the year 1879, a handful of brave pioneers maintain isolated settlements in the badlands beyond civilization. Irish Immigrant Fergus Coffey is near to winning the hand of his beloved Maryanne when she is suddenly taken from him, her family brutally abducted in a nighttime attack on their homestead. Suspicion falls immediately on hostile Indians
The Unnameable – The usual unsuspecting teenagers unleash a horrific creature that has been trapped in an old house for hundreds of years. Luckily, they have Randolph Carter to investigate…
The Unnameable II: The Statement of Randolph Carter – More shenanigans as Randolph Carter and Professor Warren discover a mysterious woman whose fate is tied up with that of the Unnameable…
The Whole Wide World – Set in Texas in the 1930s, a young school teacher Novalyne Price meets a handsome, eccentric, interesting young man named Robert E Howard. He’s a successful writer — creator of the pulp stories that include ‘Conan the Barbarian’; she’s an aspiring one. A friendship develops into a sort of courtship. Based on a memoir by Novalyne Price.
