ChiZine Publications and Rue Morgue have announced a special screening of Bruce McDonald’s Pontypool on Friday, December 3rd at the Toronto Underground Cinema.

Based on the zombie novel Pontypool Changes Everything (ECW and CZP) by Tony Burgess (who also wrote the screenplay for Pontypool), the film is set in the local radio station of Pontypool, Ontario as the DJ, producer and sound engineer listen to an increasing wave of violence and bizarre happenings sweep the town. Called “the best movie McDonald has ever made” by the Globe and Mail, it stars Stephen McHattie and Lisa Houle.

Following the film will be a screening of Bruce McDonald’s book trailer for Burgess’s People Live Still in Cashtown Corners (CZP) with a live Q&A on stage with Tony Burgess, Stephen McHattie, and Lisa Houle to accompany the presentation. A book signing with Burgess and the sale of the limited edition hardcover of Pontypool Changes Everything will conclude the evening.

After working with McDonald on the book trailer for Burgess’s novella, CZP co-publisher Brett Alexander Savory wants to use the screening as an opportunity to further develop the unique personality of CZP itself. “We publish books, and we love being able to do it,” Savory remarks, “but CZP is in the story business as well, and having these kinds of ‘entertainment biz’ ventures with Tony and Bruce really underscores that. We want to be well rounded and get ourselves out there in every medium — be it through book, film, or the internet.”

The event is being held at the Toronto Underground Cinema, 186 Spadina Ave in Toronto, Ontario. The film will begin at 9, so it is recommended that viewers arrive early. Tickets are $8.00 and can be purchased by calling 416-380-7903 or at the door.

More information can be found at ChiZine Publications or at the Toronto Underground Cinema.
