Edward Lipsett, a Fukuoka-based American who since 2002 has been running Kurodahan Press, a small publishing house specializing in translated Japanese literature, particularly genre fiction such as mystery, horror, fantasy and science fiction.

“Give yourself a hand,” said Stephen King to a packed house at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. “You’re out on a Friday night because of books!” King’s appearance was the grand finale of the 2011 Fall for the Book festival. The Late Great Creature debuted in 1971, and if you have not heard of it, the problem is not one of quality: the novel was nominated for the National Book Award and won resoundingly excellent reviews. 40 years later, the novel is back from dead.

The novel is called Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth and is written by Christopher Golden. He’s written a lot of horror titles but this is the first time writing for a video game. “I had a blast writing Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth,” said Golden.

Author Christopher Buehlman recently published his novel, the horror story Those Across the River. Previously an author of poetry and drama, this is his first novel. Buehlman has a second career playing “Christophe the Insultor” at Renaissance Faires. Read the full interview: Christopher Buehlman

Writer and editor Mark. W. Worthen, 49, died unexpectedly on September 19, 2011 in Columbia MO. Worthen was a horror writer, with short fiction appearing in various magazines and anthologies starting in 1993, including Stoker Award nominee Final Draft (2010). He was active in the Horror Writers Association for many years, serving as webmaster and Stoker Awards committee co-chair until his death. He received the Richard Laymon President’s Award for Service in 2007. Worthen also edited the online horror magazine Blood Rose from 1998 to 2005, and also edited anthologies, including Desolate Souls, the World Horror Convention souvenir anthology (2008), co-edited with his wife J.P. Edwards, who survives him.

Top Cow Productions is teaming up with MTV Comics to produce a Teen Wolf comic book. The comic series is based on MTV’s Teen Wolf TV show. The Teen Wolf comic series is planned as a three issue mini-series and will be released in both comic book stores and on digital platforms. The comic series is written by David Tischman with art by Stephen Mooney and covers by Joe Corroney.
