Syfy announced (April 1, 2010) that it will join forces with After Dark Films, the independent production company behind the annual Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For, to produce two films for the channel’s popular Saturday Original Movie franchise.

The first After Dark-Syfy co-production is Scream of the Banshee, starring Lauren Holly (NCIS) and Lance Henriksen (Aliens), and is directed by Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion). The second film is 51, starring, Bruce Boxleitner (TRON: Legacy), Jason London (Jason and the Argonauts), Rachel Miner (Guiding Light) and Vanessa Branch (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), and is directed by Jason Connery (The Devil’s Tomb).

Description: When a college Professor opens up a strange, ornate box discovered in the basement of a University, she and her students hear a horrifying scream belonging to that of a bloodthirsty banshee. They think nothing of it, until that scream begins to haunt all that heard it in strange and surreal ways. According to Irish lore, if you hear a Banshee scream, you will die – which is what starts happening to them one by one, as the creature starts taking their lives…

After Dark announced today that it will release the two films on their own later in the year, and separate from the After Dark Originals festival which hits selected theaters around the country on January 28th this year.

After Dark Films CEO, Courtney Solomon said, “We love our partnership with Syfy and look forward to expanding on this exciting line-up. Scream of the Banshee and 51, will be the first Syfy Saturday Original Movie to also get a theatrical release thru After Dark.”

Since October 2007, Syfy has celebrated After Dark’s 8 Films To Die For event by premiering some of the festival’s top movies. In October 2010 Syfy will showcase the latest Horrorfest films from the Horrorfest 4 line-up making the last year of Horrorfest. After Dark Originals replaces After Dark Horrorfest with 8 original, never seen before films produced for the After Dark Originals brand.
