Quercus Publishing has announced that Jo Fletcher is joining the company in January 2011 to launch a new fiction imprint, Jo Fletcher Books.

The new imprint will enhance Quercus’ award-winning fiction programme and is expected to quickly become a leader in the field of SF, fantasy and horror. Jo Fletcher is Associate Publisher of Gollancz, the fantasy and science fiction imprint of the Orion Publishing Group, where her authors include Sir Terry Pratchett, the late Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Charlaine Harris, Stephen Donaldson, Robert Rankin, Ursula K. Le Guin, Joe Hill, and Polish superstar Andrzej Sapkowski.

Fletcher says: “I have had an amazing time at Gollancz, where I’ve spent 16 years building the best SF and Fantasy list in the country with some of the best writers in the world – and now I get to do it all over again. I don’t know what could be more exciting for an editing publisher than to be setting out with a blank slate and the backing of Quercus, with all its enthusiasm and vibrancy, and the inordinate success it’s had over the last few years.”

Mark Smith, Chief Executive of Quercus said: “Jo has proved a formidable talent in finding great storytellers in the fields of SF, fantasy and horror for over two decades and we are all very excited by Jo’s decision to launch her new imprint with Quercus. We look forward to Jo Fletcher Books becoming another critically important and commercially successful imprint under the Quercus umbrella. Quercus’ strategy of working with the UK’s most creative talents to build standalone businesses continues to attract the most entrepreneurial and dynamic publishers to the company.”
