The next get together for the Fantastic Fiction at KGB reading series, hosted by Ellen Datlow and Matthew Kressel, will present a celebration of Weird Tales magazine with Jeffrey Ford. He’s the author of the novels The Portrait of Mrs. Charbuque, the Edgar Award-winner, The Girl in the Glass, and the story collection, The Empire of Ice Cream. His novel, The Shadow Year, and collection, The Drowned Life have just been published.
Joining Ford will be Ann VanderMeer is the founder of the award-winning Buzzcity Press and is currently fiction editor of Weird Tales. Ann has partnered with her husband, author Jeff VanderMeer, on the World Fantasy Award-winning Leviathan series, The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric & Discredited Diseases, The New Weird, and Steampunk and was recently a guest editor for Best American Fantasy.
Also in attendance will be Stephen H. Segal, who is the editorial & creative director of Weird Tales. He also designs book covers for Juno Books and Prime Books, contributes to Fantasy-Magazine.com, and serves on the executive board of the Interstitial Arts Foundation. Stephen lives in Frederick, Maryland, in a historic hotel-turned-apartment-building that originally opened just a few weeks before the first issue of Weird Tales was published in 1923.
Next is Karen Heuler, whose stories have appeared in anthologies and in many literary and commercial magazines. She is also a winner of the O. Henry Award. Her second novel, Journey to Bom Goody, concerns strange doings in the Amazon. She lives, writes, and teaches in New York.
And last but no least, Micaela Morrissette will be attending. She’s a senior editor of the journal Conjunctions, where her stories have appeared. A fiction reviewer for Jacket and Rain Taxi, she is also edited a symposium of multimedia works investigating the poet John Ashbery’s domestic environments, recently published in the online issue of Rain Taxi. She is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize and has been reprinted in Best American Fantasy. At present, she’s collaborating with visual artist Joshua Pelletier on a mythology of the Rat King.
Also included will be the winners & honorees of the Weird Tales Spam Fiction Contest, and original Lovecraftian artwork on display: “365 Days of Blasphemous Horrors,” by Steven Archer.
