After a long break (his last directorial effort was 2001 Ghost of Mars), John Carpenter appears to be back. He’s been busy directing The Ward, which is currently in post production. The story is about a troubled young woman who is held against her will in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital held against her will.

Now, he’s signed on to direct the film adaptation of Fangland, by John Mark. In the book, Evangeline Harker, a producer of a TV news magazine, is sent to Romania to explore doing a segment on a legendary criminal figure, Ion Torgu. Evangeline soon finds herself at the very outskirts of civilization, and accosted by Torgu himself, who serves as the vampire count, much like Stoker’s Dracula, in the story.

Hilary Swank is set to play Harker.
