Matchstick

By Brandon Jimison

“OK, we’re here,” Amy said. “Let’s do this and get home before my mom notices we’re gone.”

“Yeah, be a shame if you actually got caught for once,” Meg replied.

“Shh, both of you,” Jennifer spat out. “You’ll disturb the spirits. Take your match.”

Each of the girls now held a match in their hand.

“I’ll go first, then you Amy,” Jennifer said. She struck her match,

“Joni Matchstick light a match for me.”

Amy struck her match and said, “Joni Matchstick better make it three.”

Meg struck her match.

She screamed.

The woman had come for them all.
