Her Husband’s Garden

by  Tracy L. Carbone

Myrna shuffled to the garden to visit the corpse of her beloved dog. Jerry was a good boy, a faithful companion. The ground was soft, and fresh green seedlings grew on the recent mound of expensive topsoil. She set a bouquet of daisies on his grave. She gave the expensive biscuit shaped headstone a loving pat. “Miss you so much.” To her left, a patch of cheap concrete cracked in the heat of the sun. Her husband Mike had been driving the car that killed Jerry. She spit on the slab, cursed the body beneath it, and walked away.
