Medallion Press will have a table on the FOF convention floor, where they’ll hand out free limited edition “ash cans” containing the first three chapters of Lamberson’s novel The Jake Helman Files: Personal Demons, which will be published as a mass market paperback October 1st. “Ash cans” is a term coined by comic publishers who sent limited runs of new comic titles to distributors and merchants to elicit interest. The editions were intended to be evaluated and then discarded, and ended up becoming collectors’ items. Each Personal Demons ash can will also include an access code so that readers can read exclusive chapters from other upcoming Medallion horror titles online, including Lamberson’s 2010 and 2011 releases, The Frenzy Way and The Jake Helman Files: Desperate Souls. In addition, Medallion reps will give away Personal Demons shirts and “victim tattoos.”
Lamberson will be on hand to sign the ash cans for fans throughout the weekend. “One of the reasons I love working with Medallion is that they take their marketing very seriously,” he says. “They’re promoting me as an author as much as they are my individual novels. They showed this with their efforts on behalf of Johnny Gruesome, and they’re showing it again now.”
Paige Davis from Alternative Cinema will be on hand as well, to promote the company’s new double disc DVD, Greg Lamberson’s Slime City Grindhouse Collection, now available under their Shock-O-Rama label. AC is sponsoring “Dance of the Deadites,” the Official Rue Morgue Festival of Fear Party at 10:00 pm on Saturday, August 29th. AC will hand out gift baskets to Masquerade finalists which will include Slime City, as well as Johnny Gruesome and Lamberson’s filmmaking tome, Cheap Scares! Low Budget Horror Filmmakers Share Their Secrets.
“I’ve had a relationship with Alternative Cinema going back to 1998, when they released my vampire film Undying Love on VHS as New York Vampire,” Lamberson explains. “Then they re-released Slime City on VHS in 1999, and on DVD in 2005, and now again in 2009. They’ve really worked to keep my film work available to low budget horror film fans. It’s great working with Mike Raso and Paige.”
In addition, “Slime,” the theme song to Lamberson’s just wrapped sequel Slime City Massacre, will have its world premiere at the Dance of the Deadites party. The song was written and performed by Giasone and Marcy Italiano, who composed the songs for Lamberson’s Johnny Gruesome companion rock CD.
“I love attending Festival of Fear every year. It’s the one convention I don’t miss. I’m very fortunate to have two different companies promoting my work there, and to have a platform to promote my new film and novels. It’s so much easier to reach the fans when you don’t have to do the heavy lifting yourself.”
