Stories From The Plague YearsIn embracing its growing ebook readership, ChiZine Publications (CZP) has announced it will be releasing the stories from some of its short story collections as individual e-books.

Available from Sony, Kobo, Apple, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google and the CZP website, each story will be priced at $0.99 (though retailers may charge a higher price). Beginning in November, 2012 with Helen Marshall’s “Hair Side, Flesh Side,” CZP began rolling out the ebook shorts, which will continue through to May, 2013.

“This is a great way for readers to discover our authors,” says co-publisher Brett Alexander Savory. “For a dollar, less than a cup of coffee, they can check out a story and see if they like it. Then it only takes a click or two to instantly get the complete ebook for their e-reader. Or they can order the trade paperback if they want a physical book.”

“Part of CZP’s mandate has been to embrace new technology and ways of using it,” adds Sandra Kasturi, CZP’s other co-publisher. “We’re in the business of telling stories, not just the book business. It’s about readership. Our e-books have fair prices, and come out at the same time as the physical books. So why not let readers who are curious try out a story or two? Or if they’ve read a story in a collection that touches them, they can use the store’s gift function to send that story to a friend. Perfect for Valentine’s Day. Well, a creepy Valentine’s Day, since it’s ChiZine after all!”
