In production news, all of Cemetery Dance Publications books at the printer “lost” about a week in their production schedule due to the “ghosting” problem that delayed Full Dark, No Stars, but The Exorcist and Legion by William Peter Blatty (which sold out prepublication) will be shipping to their warehouse early next week. The Painted Darkness by Brian James Freeman will be ready to ship to Cemetery Dance late next week. The Passage by Justin Cronin (which sold out prepublication in a matter of hours) is also on track to ship to their warehouse this month, as is Shivers VI edited by Richard Chizmar. Stories from the Plague Years by Michael Marano will now be published in early January.
In Awards news, nominations for the 4th annual Black Quill Awards were announced this week, and several Cemetery Dance publications appear on the ballot. “Goblin Boy” by Rick Hautala (Cemetery Dance #63) and “We” by Bentley Little (Cemetery Dance #64) both appear in the “Best Dark Scribble (Short Story) category. Invisible Fences by Norman Prentiss appears in the “Best Small Press Chill” category. Other authors familiar to CD readers, including Stephen King and Peter Straub, appear on the ballot, as does regular CD magazine columnist Ellen Datlow with Haunted Legends (co-edited with Nick Mamatas), and CD newsletter columnist Lisa Morton with The Castle of Los Angeles. The Black Quill Awards are given annually by Dark Scribe Magazine, an online publication that provides reviews, interviews, and feature articles about “the books that keep you up at night.”
