Unkill Charlie’s Nightmares

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Mysterious screenwriter and newly-published author, Unkill Charlie, haunts bookshelves and exhibits with a strange and daunting brand of verses as he intertwines suspense and horror in Unkill Charlie’s Nightmares. His book, like his television series, is his testament that there is darkness lurking within every person. It is from the darkest corners of his imagination that he penned his anthology.

“I don’t know what possessed me to start writing or where all the words even came from; but evil comes to mind and I remember someone saying, ‘Kill ‘em all,’ don’t you?” he says.

Casting dark shadows with this literary work, he keeps readers at the edge of their seats as he throws finely-sharpened double-edged words wielded into poems. They are a blend of the ephemeral and the eternal. They speak of the fragility and fleetingness of life as it is juxtaposed against the certainty and finality of death, as well as the eternity of life thereafter. With over five dozens of blood-curling poems, the pervading thread that strings all his words together is simply the thread of terror he wants woven into the reading experience.

The book also reminds readers of a host of dark characters that may or may not be real such the boogie man, creepers, demons, the undertaker, the phantom killer, and of course, Satan. From its initial pages, down to the last, it sets in motion a series of dark and terrifying events involving murder, suicide—and generally—death.

Spine-tingling as it is thought-provoking, Unkill Charlie’s Nightmares is a one-of-a-kind poetry book that leaves readers thirsting for salvation. It is a work that does not only present to readers someone else’s nightmares, but also affect them so much to develop their own. It is one work not penned for the faint-hearted.

About the Author

Unkill Charlie loves and lives in beautiful Northern California. He is a proud father of six hell-raisers. He and his wife, Nicole, are busy all the time. He first thought he was going to write some song lyrics and two weeks later he found himself writing murder mysteries for a weekly television series.

Alexander’s Song Trailer Released

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Paul F. Olson has released a video trailer for his novel, Alexander’s Song, which was published for the Kindle last month.
The novel, which crosses genre lines and incorporates elements of mystery, suspense, horror and mainstream fiction, tells the story of one man’s quest to understand the mysterious past of a famous writer. At first stymied in his search, he gradually discovers a series of strange and frustrating clues, each one leading him deeper toward the heart of a shocking secret and a terrible realization: he has uncovered a chain of darkness that began over sixty years ago and is not finished yet.

“It’s quite a task to sum up a long, complex novel in a trailer than runs just over a minute,” Olson says. “But I think the trailer for Alexander’s Song does a really good job capturing the flavor and tone of the book. It was a challenge to make, but a lot of fun, too.”

Here’s the trailer:

About the Author: Paul F. Olson has been a professional writer and editor for over thirty years. He has published numerous short stories, articles, interviews, essays, book reviews and more.

He is the author of the novel Night Prophets, published by New American Library. Teaming with David B. Silva, he co-edited two anthologies of horror stories, Post Mortem and Dead End: City Limits, both published by St. Martin’s Press. Post Mortem was later reprinted in paperback by Dell/Abyss.

In the 1980s Olson launched the non-fiction trade magazine Horrorstruck: The World of Dark Fantasy, which was nominated for the British and World Fantasy Awards, and ten years later partnered with Silva again to create the Hellnotes newsletter.
Olson lives in the small town of Brimley, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He can be contacted through his website: Paul F. Olson

ForNevermore

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Authors Sean Platt and David W. Wright have already proven that weekly serialization works to drive sales and please readers with their post-apocalyptic serial Yesterday’s Gone, which has generated impressive sales and over 200 5-Star reviews. Now the duo is aiming for more self publishing success with their first entry into the young adult paranormal/dark fantasy genres.

Audiences who loved The Hunger Games and Twilight will love Platt and Wright’s recently released first season of their serial, ForNevermore.

“We wanted to write something that captured the magic and misery of being young, trying to find your place, and not fitting in anywhere,” said Platt, who described ForNevermore as a darkly romantic fantasy horror.

ForNevermore tells the story of Noella Snow, a 17 year old who lives in two worlds. The real world where her parents are dead and she lives with her aunt in upstate New York, then her dreamworld where her father is still alive, and she’s watched over by Dante, a mysterious man with a deadly touch.

As her 17th birthday approaches, Noella’s dream world begins to bleed into her real world, and she starts hearing voices and seeing monsters that can’t possibly be real. As Death comes to claim her, Dante saves her, saying not only is he real, but he has watched over her for hundreds of years.

Is she losing her mind? Will he have to return to King’s Point Psychiatric Hospital?

“Don’t let the young adult tag fool you. This is a deep, dark story,” said Wright. “The only thing separating this story-wise from our other fiction is a lack of sex and the language is PG-13. But the scares, plot twists, and crazy cliffhanger endings our readers love are all there! We love how the first season turned out in its weekly form, and are thrilled to publish the full season.”

Platt and Wright are looking to become Kings of the Serial this year with a publishing schedule of one book, short story, or episode per week in 2012. They treat their serials like TV shows, writing in six week blocks, with each “episode” ranging from 11,000 to 25,000 words in length. Each episode sells for .99 during its season. After all six episodes of a given season are out, they compile all six episodes into a Season Compilation, which sells in one low-priced book.

The duo says that offering readers a choice of either buying the serials in weekly doses or waiting for the whole season book has been one of the keys to their success.

Yesterday’s Gone: Season Two returned in January for its second smash season, running six straight weeks into February. They followed with the debut of ForNevermore in February. They’ll be returning to adult horror with their newest series, WhiteSpace, a sci-fi horror serial, on May 1.

“You know how HBO, Showtime, and AMC all have awesome must-see TV week after week? We want to be the HBO, Showtime, or AMC of the Kindle world, where no matter what, you know we’ll have something awesome for you, every Tuesday,” said Platt.

Alaspa Promises Fans Experiment in May

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Chicago horror novelist and ebook indie publisher Bryan W. Alaspa posted on his website that he was planning to publish what he is calling an “experiment” for his fans in May of 2012. The author stated on his website that he wanted to do this to thank fans for their support and to keep them engaged and interested while he works on getting two major works published in the summer and fall of 2012.

“I finished two books during the first quarter of this year, a work of fiction and a work of non-fiction. While both of those are currently in the hands of publishers and either being considered for publication or currently being added to the publishing schedule, I have now turned to other works I have completed for potential publishing,” said the author from his Chicago offices. “The concept is from the music world. Like when a musical group puts out a CD filled with B-sides or early takes of songs or unreleased tidbits. Yes, it is the kind of thing that mostly appeals to diehard fans, but I thought you might also find it interesting. I don’t have a title yet. I don’t want to reveal too much more, but I just wanted to tease you a bit. I hope to have this ready for you guys next month.”

The exact nature of the book is unknown and the author said he is unwilling to give too much away at this moment. He has promised that it will be interesting and filled with strange and odd things that readers have not yet seen.
