Karen L. Simpson of Ann Arbor, MI, has been named the recipient of the 2009 Older Writers Grant, given by the Speculative Fiction Foundation (SLF). This is the sixth annual grant targeted for a writer who is over fifty years of age and just beginning to work on a professional level. The $750 award may be used however the writer chooses. S. H. Gilbert, Phillip Kaldon, David Shifren, K. P. Graham, and Ada Milenkovic Brown were named Honorable Mentions.

The SLF, a non-profit group, works to promote literary quality in speculative fiction by encouraging promising new writers as well as assisting established writers. The SLF also offers a Gulliver’s Travels Research Grant.
